The Client
L.A. Mission College desired a design that would not only stand out to bystanders on its busiest intersection but also serve as a welcoming entry way and seating area to the surrounding community and students alike. L.A. Mission College teamed up with Pierre Sprinkler & Landscape for a third time to achieve its objective.
The Project
The plans called for a complete transformation of L.A. Mission College’s northwest corner, covering 15,000 square feet. Considering its location along two of the busiest corners in Sylmar, California, the project required heightened safety measures. After cautiously demolishing the site, irrigation installation and grading were undertaken to prepare for the entrance way’s ornate design. Cobblestones were laid by hand along the curved walkway to ensure accuracy while eleven granite boulders were strategically placed throughout. Care was taken with ornamental and tree installation to heighten the environments sense of serenity despite the busy street corner location.
The Result
The project was completed within full safety compliance despite the job site’s proximity to rush hour traffic. Students use the space as a hangout between classes or an outdoor study environment while community members wait comfortably for public transportation. The updated entryway leaves no doubt that the property is the proud site of the Los Angeles Mission Community College.
