The Client

The City of South El Monte is excited to reveal their newly renovated park located on Central Avenue. The renovations at the Mary Van Dyke Park were important to many residents, as it sits embedded amongst many residential homes and down the street from the City of South El Monte Community Center. With many residents living only footsteps away from the park, it was imperative the project renovations be completed on a timely manner and with respect to the residents nearby. The Pierre team was excited to work in collaboration with others on the transformation of the Mary Van Dyke Park.

The Project:

Pierre Sprinkler and Landscape partnered with E.C. Construction, to complete the final phase of the development. Pierre workers installed the foundation for future events such as soccer games and concerts in the park by installing over 30,000 sq ft of sod on to the property.  Numerous size box trees were also strategically placed and installed around the park, to create a relaxing ambience around the picnic tables and throughout the trail that surrounds the two new t-ball fields.

Along with the installation of over 1,000 one and five gallon shrubs and vines, the tedious task of placing various sized boulders around the premises were also completed. Shrubs were placed nestled around the boulders and throughout the park in accordance to the park’s beautification and renovations plans. Pennisetum Aloepecuroides shrubs placed around the entrance now welcome the residents of South El Monte to their newly renovated park.

The Result:

This community park is the first completed project of many set to begin in South El Monte. The park renovation was paid in part by a grant from Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina and the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy.

Originally named after Mary E. Van Dyke, whom was appointed City Clerk in 1968, the park had a big celebration late this year for it’s grand opening. Local government officials and residents attended the festivities, and  boasted about the massive changes made to the park. Families showed pride in their newly renovated park, and also showed excitement on future events the park will attract.

The Mary Van Dyke Park now includes a picnic area with tables, a gazebo, community barbeques, grass areas for soccer games, and two t-ball fields.  With the completion of this multi-functional park, many residents can simply walk across the street to enjoy the park for recreational and leisure use.

With the nice breeze and fresh aroma still lingering in the air from all of Pierre’s installations, this park will continue to be a sweet escape for many residents.
