The Client:
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Public Health located on S. Wilmington Ave in Los Angeles will be used as a resource for public health outreach. The facility which opened late 2011 provides services related to disease prevention and healthy living. The fitness center was an extension of the new health center.
The Project:
Pierre Sprinkler and Landscape partnered with McCarthy Building Companies on the completion of the MLK Fitness Garden, which was run on a tight schedule. The project called for site furnishings, concrete, lighting, native plant installations, drip irrigation, and a decomposed granite pathway.
Site furnishings including fitness equipment and a drinking fountain were installed on site, as well as solar low-voltage lighting. Native plants and lighting now decorate the pathway created of decomposed granite towards the entrance. Pierre workers also installed water efficient irrigation by installing low volume drip irrigation on site.
The Result:
The completion of this facility is the first project completed as part of the new Martin Luther King Jr. Wellness Community. The center is expected to employee 5,000 people once the entire facility is complete, and provide free or low-cost health services to County residents.
