In May 2009, Best Buy opened a new store in Duarte, California.  Scope for the project included installing irrigation and constructing planters throughout a shared parking lot as well as the building’s perimeter.  While the architect envisioned an aesthetically pleasing yet user friendly landscape the city imposed restrictions of its own.  Pierre Sprinkler & Landscape was brought on to effectively implement a solution to fit both needs. 

The retail center required over 20,000 square feet of irrigation throughout a parking lot shared among three separate retailers.  Twenty different zones were installed to support the center’s size.  To make the location unique yet uniform, over one hundred trees of five species were planted along with seven hundred shrubs of ten different species.  Per city water conservation requirements, all ground coverage is drought tolerant and irrigated by zero-evaporation drip lines that keep the landscape uniform while reducing water usage.  Lighting was applied within each planter to enhance the landscaping throughout.

Critical to the project’s success was keeping the retailer’s operational while under construction.  Pierre Sprinkler & Landscape synchronized irrigation, planting and lighting over four phases of instillation.  Disruption was mitigated to keep the business operational while adhering to the project’s schedule.
