UCLA, Police Station

Right in the heart of Westwood, California rests one of the largest UC’s in the state: the University of California, Los Angeles.  With almost 40,000 undergraduates and graduates studying on campus, the University requires a large police fleet with state of the art technology to keep its student body safe.  The previous station was old and run down, so the University decided it was time to build a new station.

Pierre Sprinkler & Landscape worked again with Novus Construction on the job.  With the job site in a densely populated and high traffic area, the site only allowed for just under 1200 square feet of planter area.  Nonetheless, safety was a major concern at this bustling destination.  Pierre crews had to work carefully to make sure students, faculty, and Westwood visitors did not get injured during the construction process. 

Due to the tight working and planting quarters, Pierre crews installed root barriers among the shrubs and trees to prevent root overgrowth from ruining the aesthetic appeal of the design.  Approximately 20 36” box trees and 500 shrubs were installed along the perimeter of the new Police Station.  George Wallis, Project Manager at Novus, was “very happy with the installation and the maintenance is great as well.  The change order work was always really straightforward and installation was done quickly.  Of course all of our work we do with Pierre is great. “
